IE browser window behaviour

When I have several IE windows (and perhaps other
applications) open, sometimes one window will
automatically open/maximise/restore over another that I
may be reading. I assume this relates to the way a webpage
is programmed. Is there a way to disable this annoying
browser behaviour? Thanks.

It's called "stealing focus". Prevent this from happening by minimizing
windows to the taskbar instead of switching between open windows.
