IE Browser opens with Search bar on left

After a recent update from Microsoft, to stay current with
security patches, etc. IE started opening with a Search
bar down the entire left side of the window. It has the
MSN butterfly icon at the top. It also hides the Links
Toolbar. I upgraded from IE 5.5 to 6.0 but it still
happens. How can I get rid of the Search Bar and get the
Links Toolbar back?

Close all IE Windows...
Start one instance of IE...
Close the Search Explorer bar (click the x at the top of the Panel or press
the ctrl+E hotkey to hide the Search Explorer Bar)..

Enable the Links toolbar... (right click on the toolbar to display the
drop-down menu of toolbar options.. make sure 'Lock the Toolbars' is
unchecked and tick the 'Links' toolbar.

Once you have re-arranged your toolbar to your preferences close IE...

The next time you start it, it should have retained your previous toolbar
preferences.
