IE and explorer process

I have windows 2000 and IE 6. My IE icon properties show that the target is
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE". When I open my browser
using the IE icon, I expect to see a EXPLORER.EXE task but when I look at
the task manager and check what process is behind the IE application, I find
explorer.exe. Why is it not creating a IEXPLORE.EXE process for my IE icon?
