IE 7?

Jeff

Although I have kept up with all the critical updates on my XP systems,
including SP3, I have avoided IE7. When it first came out and installed
itself, I hated it and uninstalled it. Since I use Firefox 99% of the time
and only use IE for the Windows updates, it was not great problem.

I've been hearing that users now seem to not mind the recent versions of IE7
and I am therefore considering downloading it on the off chance that it is
safer to use than IE6 when I have to use it instead of Firefox.

Are the gurus here using IE7 instead of IE6? At one time it was pretty much
thumbs down for IE7.

Jeff

IE7 has been installed and embraced by millions of
Windows XP users. It is far more secure and reliable
than IE6. It's time to upgrade to IE7!

I've been running IE7 since the very first private beta, Jeff, with no
issues whatsoever.

Required reading IMHO before installing IE7:

Sandi's Installation Tips <= Steps #1-8, #10 & #11; take note of #12, then
STOP!
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install
(ignore any references to Vista)

And I strongly recommend using
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx as the
installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update.

Alternately, use this Direct Download link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=9ae91ebe-3385-447c-8a30-081805b2f90b

Tip: Save the installer to your desktop, do not Run it.

Make *certain* that you check in at Windows Update immediately after
installing IE7 and install any critical updates offered. If Optional
Updates category offers Root Certificates update, I recommend installing it
to take full advantage of IE7's additional security.

Hi Jeff. I raised a similar question in this NG on 5 June -see subject heading
"Internet Explore 7" - you might like to have a look at the replies which
included some excellent links to advice about how to go about the upgrade from
IE6.

Apologies to Mr Bear - when I posted my message his (timed at 19:07) had not yet
appeared here.

Why did you hate it? What was wrong with it? It has performed 100% since I
installed it (when first available)..

Pa Bear, I did not use the Installer to download my IE 7; missed it. ;-))
But, of course, I downloaded it only from MS's website... should I
un-install and re-install using the download program? I'm concerned about
missing some of the highly important codes.

Shame SP3, didnt put a print preview button option in IE 7's tool
bar:(

Jeff,

I certainly don't qualify as a "guru" but here's my $.02 on IE7

I used IE6 since its inception until just recently when I made the jump from
Windows 98SE to XP/IE7, recently updated to SP3.

I couldn't be happier with IE7. It is stable, fast, reliable and safe. I
haven't seen a BSOD, virus, spyware, malware, or hijack attempt event in the
few months I've been using it. The tabbed browsing is handy but is not the
main reason I like it.

Like Firefox, there are many add-ons available. I would avoid most of them
as there have been cases where they caused problems. They are easy to
manage via the tools menu if you want to try them out. One add-on I am
using and particularly like is the Quero toolbar which gives one the address
bar sizing and button location flexibility of IE6 but is otherwise
unobtrusive and retains all the good features of IE7 such as the tabbed
browsing. It also provides direct searching from the address bar which I
find very handy.

Good luck with IE7. I think you'll like it.

Have you tried clicking the arrow next to the printer icon? Print preview is
available in the drop down menu.

Again, please begin a new thread (in an appropriate newsgroup; e.g., IE

Thank you.

In those cases, I use the Firefox add-in "IE Tab" to open IE within Firefox
and back out again.

Thanks Plato.
