When I try to access windowsupdate.com, I get resistance. If I am ever able
to get on, the updates fail to install. Also, the shield in the system tray
stays yellow and reads: "downloadingupdates: 0%". Could this be linked to
Active X controls? Please help me to resolve this very frustrating problem.
Thank you.

Clean your caches, internet files and delete all cookies and run Disk Clean
Up on your Hard drive.
Try to Repair your Windows Update Engine, to do that follow these steps to
reregister the DLLs by opening a Run Command and type these Commands
one-by-one and click [Enter] or [OK]:
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 inetcomm.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll
regsvr32 cryptsvc.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 qmgr.dll
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
net start wuauserv
net start cryptsvc

You can copy and paste the above in a Notepad and save it As reg.bat on your
Desktop and then Open a Run command and type in:
C:\reg.bat click [OK]
Then Restart your machine and try the windows Update website.
Please let us know.

= Open the Windows Explorer and locate this path:
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistributions = delete the
contents in the Right Pane/Window for these updates.
Run Disk CleanUp on your computer

= Open Run command and type in:
regsvr32 MSXML3.DLL
regsvr32 Jscript.dll

net stop wuauserv
net start wuauserv
Check status of Automatic Updates. Must be set to Automatic and Started.
Reboot your computer and see if that will help.

If you have NIS turn the Firewall OFF and try the updates site.
HTH.
Let us know.
