I have been unable to get ontoo the internet through IE or AOL or anything
else. I tested the modem and was able to ping back and forth through the cmd
prompt with no problem. The person from the dsl service said that internet
explorer was corrputed, so i reloaded windows XP, but it still doesn't work.
Any ideas?

Are you running a software firewall such as Zone Alarm?
Have you reapplied all critical Windows Updates since the reinstall?

You mentioned AOL in your initial post, I can't really help you there since
their software is proprietary. I would check back with AOL.
Only you know how well you have restored your operating system.

Try this;

Good luck.
