IE 6 -- difference between versions

Hi all,

could anyone explain to me what the difference is between the following IE 6
Versions? All Updates have been installed on both machines and I can't find
any point where the difference may result from.

the versions:

6.0.2900.2180.xpsp050622-1524
6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519

Thanks for your help.

Best regards,

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

I think that they are from different vendors (OEM's) who have supplied the
computers. It may be that they have budled their own software with the IE
installation (a search toolbar) under an IEAK license.

I am only guessing though. I am not up on what branding codes are embeded in
the User Agent string.

Regards.

Hi Rob,

thanks for your quick answer.

this is what I also thought about and hoped that this oem branding is not
the cause of this different version strings.
Because this is the only thing I saw which is different on two workstations
where one is making trouble and the other machine is working fine I've to
look deeper to this problem which I thought was caused by this different
versions.

I don't think so. To those who keep good records (I don't) it tells what
updates have been installed.

Hi Frank,

we use WSUS to roll out patches in our environment, as far as I know the
both workstations are restricted to download patches directly from
windowsupdate-page so I'm pretty sure that the same patches are installed on
both machines.

But any tip is helpful so thanks for any answer regarding that.

Best regards,

Daniel
