IE 6.0 browser crashing.

Mana

This is becoming a serious problem. There are some major
web site I cannot even dare to open. The browser crash in
no time. Interestingly, all these site's are quite
visible with previous version of IE. But it is extremely
unfortunate, after upgrading to IE version 6.0.2800 all
there crashing problem is occuring.

Is there any patch out there for this IE 6.0 version to
cure this problem. Or do I have to roll back to IE's
previous version (which seems to me more stable!).

What do you mean by crash? Error message details, please....

When an error message comes up, click the blue link by "To see what this error report contains - click here". Need to know the App name and Mod name.

Or go to this article - Description and Availability of Internet Explorer Error Reporting Tool http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];Q276550 - scroll down for how to disable the Error Reporting Tool, and then let Windows capture the error the next time. There will then be an error box with a Details button. Need to know the XXXX caused a YYYY in module ZZZZ part. You can leave out the stack dump numbers. Also need to know the version of Windows the user is running.

Well, crash means crash! Once I type those web site
address (all of them are very reputed news web site or
different well known manufacturer site!) and try to launch
those site (by hitting <enter>) the browser just disappear
without any trace! No chance to track error. I have a
relaunch a fresh browser to see other site.

Incidentally, I am running Window 2000 SP2 installed.

Here you go Mana:

Also...

It is essential to check for spyware/hijackware/foistware.

Go to IE tools, internet options, general tab. Click on the cache settings
button and then 'view objects'. Delete anything you don't recognise. If you
are unsure, or no objects appear, for diagnosis purposes I REALLY like
BHODemon, available at http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm. It
does not need installing - simply unzip and run the EXE programme. It is
very easy to use.

Also, you may like to use a programme called BHOCop available here:

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,2023,00.asp

I find this programme is a better option than IE6's ability to turn off
"Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart)". This disables
*all* plug-ins and makes troubleshooting very difficult.

Many people like AdAware, available at www.lavasoft.de . Make sure you keep
the signature files up to date and remember, AdAware may only remove the
current installation of spyware; it may not do anything about software that
reinstalls itself, so unless you want to get stuck in an endless loop of
hijack/cleanout/hijack/cleanout make sure you get rid of whatever is
installing the junk. See my Troubleshooting advice for information about
how to track down and get rid of spyware completely.
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/Darnit.htm#tshoot

An excellent replacement for AdAware is Spybot. Again, it is a free
programme which can be downloaded from:

In this case then the word "crash" is misleading us.
We were assuming that you were getting an error message.

Incidentally, I am running Window 2000 SP2 installed.

It looks as if you are quite behind in your maintenance.
E.g. there is now an W2Ksp4 available. Are you similarly
behind with Acrobat Reader by any chance? If you have
AR5.0 that would be a known cause of your symptom due
to an incompatibility with its BHO.

In any case in general interfering third-party programs is a possible
cause and can be tested for by disabling all BHO by unchecking
Enable third-party browser extensions (requires restart)
(Internet Properties, Advanced tab)
In order to satisfy the restart caveat you should make this change
using the Control Panel's Internet Properties tool with all instances
of IE closed. See this KB article for more instructions:

<title>298931 - How to Disable Third-Party Tool Bands and Browser Helper Objects</title>

If that helps but you lose some desired functionality you can reenable
the option and refine your diagnosis by using tools such as BHODemon
spybotsd and adaware.

Search this newsgroup for posts by others which refer to
spyware or bad BHO for more explanation and help.

BTW if you didn't do anything to resolve your earlier toolbar issue
(which you reported in the ieak newsgroup) you should do those
other checks for malware anyway.

Good luck
