ideas please - multiple TOCs in a document

Hi

i've had someone ask me today about constructing a document (word 2000) with
14 chapters - each chapter is to have its own TOC and then they would like a
combined TOC for the whole document.

I'm thinking that the way to approach it is to define separate styles for
each chapter and build the chapter TOCs using the styles for that chapter
then combining all the styles in the overall TOC.

Is this the best way to approach it or is there a better way?

The way you suggest would be a nightmare. As Margaret has pointed out, there
is luckily a much easier way. Just select a chapter and insert a bookmark.
Then use the \b switch in the TOC field to create a TOC based on the
bookmarked text. Details at

Hi Margaret & Suzanne

thanks for the info ... have gone with the \b switch (didn't know it was
even there!) ... works a treat.
