Whilst waiting for the installation of DSL in a new apartment, I am
accessing the Internet via dial-up on a WinXP SP-1 notebook. This is
connected via LAN to my WinXP SP-2 desktop, which I use for work. The two
machines can see each other and I can copy files between them.

However, I cannot access the Internet (at all) on the desktop. ICS is
configured on the laptop; the 'Home networking connection' is set to the
network adaptor connected to my hub. I have set the IP address of the
laptop to 192.168.0.1 and that on the desktop to 192.168.0.2.

Any ideas regarding what I can do to access the Internet from my dektop, via
the laptop, would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Set the desktop to obtain its IP address automatically. This will also
ensure gateway settings are set correctly on the desktop, which should
mean it will work.

Hi Glm,

How do you share the connections, on the modem or the network adapter with
the IP address 192.168.0.1?

What is the default gateway and IP address on the desktop? As Max has
pointed that you need to set the client machine to automatically obtain the
IP address including the DNS.

Please refer to the following link to configure the network:

Thank you to both of you. I set the desktop to obtian the IP address
automatically and all is well. All being well, my DSL will be
re-installed soon and I'll be back to normal!

Again, thank you for taking the time to reply.
