click start........find IE and Mail..........drag the icons to the
desktop..thats a right click drag and drop

For IE, right click a blank spot on the desktop and choose Properties |
Desktop | Customize Desktop and check the box for Internet Explorer. This
creates a shortcut which is not a normal desktop in that if you right click
it and choose Properties you get Internet Options.
