My customized icons for My Computer and the Recycle Bin
keep changing back to the default icons when I reboot (
sometimes on refresh )the computer, the rest of the icons
that I customized on the desktop and elsewhere behave
fine retaining the customized change. I did not do any
upgrades or have anyother issues with the OS. Is there a
file that is corrupted ? How can I force Windows OS to
retain the new icons for My Computer and the Recycle Bin?

Windows XP Pro pre SP1 and no SP2 - Very stable Windows
OS with no known issues

Thanks

If you have an nVidia card, try a driver roll back via the Device Manager.

If this is not the case:

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Clsid

Right click the folder icon and select Permissions/Advanced/Add/System.
Put a check in the Deny column for the Set Value permission.
Ok your way out.

You may also want to run:

Save Settings on Exit (Line 54)
