Icons disappeared from desktop

Please tell me how to get my ions to reappear. When I
start the computer all I get is a blank screen. From
there I go to Ctrl Alt Delete then browse the system and
get on the internet. Once, I was able to get the icons
back but, when I shut the computer down and restarted the
computer they disappeared again. Please any help would
be appreciated.

Cathy,
When you bring up the task manager by pressing ctrl-alt-
deltete, do you see an entry under the processes tab named
ACTIVATOR.exe?
