Icon Enigma

Can anyone explain,

After installation the desktop is bare other than the recycle bin and there
are no icons in the quick launch bar.

I have installed XP on various computers over the last year and this has
happened several times can anyone explain why?

Adrian,

That is normal

If you want the other icons back, right click the desktop and
go to properties >desktop tab >customize desktop.

If you want icons in the launch area next to start button
drag and drop from desktop. other programs you can
shortcut to desktop (right-click) and place in launch
area.

R-click task bar and select properties, make sure that "Show Quick Launch"
is checked. You can r-click an application in your "All programs" list and
select "Send to Desktop (create short-cut)" to place an icon on the desktop.
