I have a mystery that maybe some one can help me with?
Ok, here it is.

Windows 2000 Advance Server service pack 4 and the latest
hot fixes.

A comm person is reporting that his routers are receiving
ICMP pings from all of our Windows 2000 Advanced Servers.
We built a bare Windows 2000 Advanced Server with service
pack 4 and the latest hot fixes. And still he reports
that his routers are receiving ICMP pings.
We think we have tracked it to the Services.exe service.
Has any one else seen this on their network?
Is this a normal condition for Windows 2000 Server?

By the way our antivirus is Trend Micro and it reports
all of our Servers are clean.

Thanks in advanced.

Sergio

Hi,

How often do you see the pings? Are they "normal" pings or are they larger
than a normal ICMP packet? What services do you have running on the
servers? Try booting in Safe mode with networking and see if the pings quit
happening.

Thanks,
