Scott Withee

We have a Windows 2000 server that runs a real time data
entry application. Some users have been unable to login
across our WAN, others have no problem. The WAN is
primarily Novell 5.5 with a fair number of Windows 2000
servers as well.

Due to a virus, our sys admins have shut down ICMP on
some of the routers. My question is whether ICMP is
required to login across the network? Any thoughts?
Scott

Hi Scott,

Slow link detection uses ICMP:

227260 How a Slow Link Is Detected for Processing User Profiles and Group
Policy

Although it can be disabled.

Thanks,
