Norton Antivirus keep bothering me that file iassvr.dll is infected by virus.
I have 2 questions:
1) is this file part of windows system?
2) if this file is not part of windows, how can i delete it? It cannot be
deleted at all. Norton cannot delete it. I go to safe mode and it cannot be
deleted there. I want to delete it. HOW???
If there is DOS, maybe i can delete it but Windows XP has not DOS!!

There are anti virus News Groups specifically for this type of discussion.

Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe

To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode.
This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the PC.

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help
file. http://www.ik-cs.com/multi-av.htm

Nothing turns up doing a Google search or on this machine, so I
suspect Norton is correct.
D/L and run these two from safe mode after cleaning out all tmp files.

sysclean http://www.trendmicro.com/download/dcs.asp
get the latest pattern files here
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/viruspattern.asp
smitfraud http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/SmitFraud.exe

BTW have a look at cmd - it's "almost" DOS :-)

Start > Run ...> cmd

Roberto:

I am the author of the SmitFraud tool you posted.
As the author I see NO connection between the DLL Ado posted and the family of malware that
the SmitFraud utility is programmed to target.

Also you posted the simple constructs for the Trend Micros Sysclean utility.
I am also the author of the Multi AV Scanning Tool which is a front end to the Trend Micro
Sysclean utility as well as AV scanners from; McAfee, Sophos and Kaspersky.

I suggest you check it out :-)

Information about it was posted in my "other" reply.

| David, thank you for the reply. But i did not get you.
| Why do i have to run MULTI_AV.EXE?

It is a 4 vendor command line scanner front end. It provides multiple ways to remove
malware. Included is a PDF Help File which explains how to download AV signatures and
engine files and then create a DOS Boot Disk or a DOS Boot Disk with NTFS4DOS.

With the multiple facets of this software you will have a greater capability of removing the
malware.

Lets face it. You only mentioned the name of a DLL and the AV software.
You did NOT provide the fully qualified name and path to the infected file.
You did NOT provide the name of the infector that NAV deemed the DLL to be infected with.
