i8042prt event id 27 error

Hi, I am running XP home version on a HP pavillion 750
machine. I lost the use of both my ps/2 mouse and
keyboard. I am not aware of any updates unless they were
done through automation. I was able to work around this
problem by installing an USB mouse and keyboard. Device
manager says both ps/2 devices are working properly. I
have tried to uninstall and reinstall both ps/2 devices.
This did not work. I also updated the registry to allow
ps/2 devices to be hot pluggable. This also did not work.
The event viewer says there is an i8042prt event id 27
error. This occurs at boot up time. Documentation on this
error says the this is a timeout error and that I need to
increase the timeout interval in the registry for these
devices. Does anyone know how to do this? Or does anyone
know of a different solution? Thanks!
