I want permanent "Show Scrollbars" in Word

I hate having to remember, look up, and execute Tools, Options, View
horizontal and vertical scroll bars. I want those two options on by default
(when the dimensions of the document warrant it) until I change them, but
certain shared documents that I load turn these options off - irritating.

I get the same thing in IE6Win, incidentally, with the status bar. Pages I
load hide that status bar, so I once again have to remember, look up, and
execute whatever is the menu sequence for Showing the Status Bar.

I thought I had control of the interface outside the web page/Word document
itself, but if I don't, I'd consider another page editor/browser in which I
did.

I just tried to replicate the problem with Word 2003 by creating a file,
going to Tools->Options, View tab, unselecting Vertical Scroll Bar, saving
the file, creating a new file, turning on the Vertical Scroll Bar and then
opening the first file, unfortunately the Vertical Scroll Bar did not
disappear. Can you email me a file that turns off your Scroll Bar?

As for the Status Bar, the only way to turn off the Status Bar as far as I
know is when a web page opens a new window, in which case the web designer
specifically set that. I'd just stop going to the web site if it caused a
problem or email the webmaster.

Hope this helps,
Nick
