I had the same problem because my Normal has "space after." But even after I
changed that to "0" and rebooted, my labels absolutely refuse to change.
With "Space after 0" my labels still have extra space. I have to "Open
Document" and change it back there.

Labels by default use the normal paragraph style, so any changes you make to
that style will be reflected in labels; however once you save a label
document, the unwanted spacing will remain in that document until you
reapply the base style from the template. New labels should adapt to the
style change. Note that as well as space after and space before you need to
check the line spacing parameter also.

But you mean I have to actually MODIFY Normal every time I switch between
labels and documents? That's clunky.

The implication is that the changes are not being made to normal.dot. Are
you saving normal.dot? Do you have an add-in which inhibits the saving of
normal.dot - such as Acrobat 7? If so see the last part of

It would be clunky if that were the only way to get the results, but
it isn't. Let me propose a couple of different ways of operating:
1. Create a separate template for labels, and don't use the Label
wizard. This involves using the wizard once, leaving the address box
blank and clicking the New Document button. Modify the Normal style in
that document to single spaced, no space before or after, and whatever
font name and size suits you. Use File > Save As and set the "save as
type" box to "Document Template (*.dot)". From then on, when you want
a label, use File > New and choose the label template instead of using
the Label wizard.
2. Continue to use Normal.dot and the wizard. Set Normal style in
Normal.dot to single space, etc. Change the style of the one empty
paragraph mark in Normal.dot to Body Text or something similar, and
modify the formatting of that style to what you want for regular
document, including the space after.

Unfortunaltely, even switching to the Labels Style prior to invoking the
"wizard" does not override Normal.dot.
TO WHOEVER IS LISTENING: Please add a "Styles" option to Tools/Labels and
