I want to block people from seeing my I.P. Address while I'm on-line

Whenever I go to a certain chatroom( i forget which one I keep it in
favourites on my home computer) from my home computer i get pop-ups like mad.
It's only when I go to THAT chat room from THAT computer. I can go there from
other computers and not get any popups, and I don't get popups anywhere else.
Someone told me it was because of my I.P. address.

Your IP address is crucial to how the internet works, you can't simply
"hide" it or data wouldn't know where to go to reach your machine!

You most likely want to look at using a firewall which will block unwanted
traffic. If you're using Service Pack 2 (if not you really should be!) you
can turn on the built in (although highly basic pre-SP2 firewall) by going
to Network Connections in Control Panel, Right clicking and going to
Properties on your internet connection and going to Advance, and then
checking protect my computer with a firewall (or words similar).

It's probably because that computer is infested with spyware.

Do a search for Spybot S&D, CWShredder and Ad-aware. Download and
install them, update them, and scan for problems, in Safe Mode if need be.

Yes IP address may be the cause of pop-ups. Have you thought of installing Microsoft's wonder drug aka Windows XP SP2? This drug certainly stops pop-ups but it also blocks all incoming traffic through its default firewall. Microsoft's software-based firewall does 50% of he work namely it stops uninvited traffic to your machine BUT (I stress it here) it does not stop outgoing traffic!. Therefore, if your machine is infected with my recent trojan then it can send spam messages to all your contacts without your knowledge. Microsoft did not want you to have a complete solution as yet!.

To browse any websites anonymously, you need a software such as Anonym which can be bought for $30. I personally don't bother to hide my IP address because I don't go to undesirerable websites and also I use remote servrs where I cannot be found. I am based in USA but this message is posted via a open socket in London. This is one of my research project which will be published on the hackers Newsgroup early in te New Year.

Best regards,

I use non Microsoft products wherever possible which requires no activation.

I use Netscape 7.2 as my default browser which has everything I need for my work.

Assuming you are using Internet Explorer, you can try some of these
suggestions, but they may actually make it impossible for you to visit
and use chat rooms:

In IE, select Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab > under the
Browsing section, remove the checkmark from Enable Install on Demand
(Other).

While in Internet Options, select the Security tab, highlight the Earth
icon, select Custom Level, and disable Active Scripting and disable
Scripting of Java applets.

If these tips work for the chat room, great. But if, at the same time
they cause problems with the loading of other web sites that you need to
access, then write down the URL addresses of the web sites you need to
access and then: in IE, select Tools > Internet Options > Security tab.
Select the Trusted Sites icon, select Sites, and put in the URLs (one at
a time). You will want to deselect Require server verification (https:)
for all sites in this zone. Click on OK and you are done.

These actions are all reversible if they become too troublesome for your
surfing.

I do not think you can prevent someone from detecting your IP. There are
websites that if you communicate trough them (use them as a server) then you
can achieve this. But this is not the problem you are having so follow
'null' info. If you have Windows XP, make sure you update to SP2. SP2 that
has some enhanced abilities to prevent some of what you getting.
