I need to retrieve old text in adocument, before the last modifica

I saved new text, by accident, over old text. I need to know how to retrieve
that information, that was there before I last saved it.

Look for a file named "Backup of xyz.wbk" where the xyz part is the
name of your file. If you're lucky, you had the "Automatically save a
backup" option turned on in Tools > Options > Save. If you didn't save
a backup copy, you can't recover a previous version -- the bits have
vanished.
