That's pretty much it. I somehow moved Run somewhere, or deleted it, and I'd
like to get it back on the menu. I think I did this a long time ago, but
can't recall how it was remedied. Thanks for your assistance. Gary.

With XP menus:

Right click the Start button | Properties | Start Menu tab | Customize |
Advanced tab | Check Run Command. Ok out.

With Classic menus:

Right click Start button | Properties | Start Menu tab | Customize | Check
Display Run. Ok out.

Thanks, Rock, but I'm not finding the "Display Run" box to check. I'm trying to dl a zip file suggested by another kind soul, but that's not working out too well. I think I may have to try again in the pm tomorrow. But I appreciate the kind assists offered by the folks of this group. I wish I had more time to hang out here. I could learn REAMS!!!!! of things XP.

Okay, rehash... I knew I didn't remember exactly right but I thought you'd
get it anyway.

Right click Start, select Properties, select Customize, Select Advanced (if
there is an Advanced tab, otherwise, ignore). Check to display Run.

This is the staandard home xp. I went to the address,(Doug... ) did the
zip file dl, and imported, without results. I do appreciate the help. I
REALLY wish I could recal what I did last time to get it back. I don't think
I had to go this deep, well, deep for me, anyway.

Did you look at the link I gave you. There are some registry fixes listed
in there.

All the instructions have been wrong ... pls people ... do it and give the
guy the correct information:

1. Right Click on Start, Select Properties
2. Click on Start Menu Tab
3. Click on Customize button next to Start menu (if checked)
4. Click on Advanced Tab
5. In list below Start menu items: look for Run command
6. Make sure it's Checked.
7. Click OK
8. Click OK

If Run Command is checked, then it is possible that somehow the NoRun
restriction has been placed on your system as a System Policy Restriction or
has unset the Start_ShowRun for your
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
registry key.

If none of the other help fixes you up, try holding down the Windows key and
pressing R.

Hahahahaha! I love it! :)
Hi. I knew this was too easy, but I tried it. It came back with an error
saying that operation had been cancelled due to restrictions on this
computer. Is this another prob, or was this a "snipe hunting" type fix??

See my post dealing with Policies. Someone has turned the feature off.

Who is the system administrator user on this system. Is this a Home PC? Are
you an Admin user?

Windows XP Home or Pro or MCE?

This is a registry setting that needs to be changed. Since you have XP
Home it doesn't have a group policy editor so the change needs to be made in
the registry directly. The link I gave you to that Google groups discussion
has the information in it to change the registry.

This works to start the run command if the only problem was that run was
removed from the Start menu; doesn't fix the underlying question of where
did it go. This won't work if something through group policy (registry
change) which is stopping the run command.

Yeah, I know. It also won't work if you have deleted the keyboard driver.
Who would know! LOL!

If there are any more ideas, I'm game, though.
