I just installed Outlook 2007. An error message occurs as the file extend.dat
is not created in my computer. How do I correct this please?

No need since it is Outlook that creates it automatically out of your addin
registry information. If it gives you issues, locate the file and rename it
to .old and Outlook will re-cache the settings automatically.

It didn't do it automatically and I have 30+ categories... with many items in
each category.

extend.dat has nothing to do with categories - it controls add-in extensions.

After furious head scratching, Candace asked:

Open Windows Explorer and, in the Address bar, enter

%UserProfile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

and click Go. Do you see extend.dat there? There is no need to create the
file. Outlook will create it automatically for you when it runs. Usually,
you don't want to create that file, you want to delete it so that Outlook
will create a fresh copy.

And I have no idea why you're posting to someone else's thread that may have
nothing to do with the problem you're seeing. Start your own thread, giving
a clear and precise description of your symptoms, being sure to include the
version information you posted above.

My friends,
The Extend.dat file does not exist; there is nothing to rename or delete;
restarting
Outlook is not creating the file but I get the message that it is missing!
Reinstalling Outlook is not an option. What else I can do?
Thanks,
Paul
