i have win xp with pro, but IE is sloooowwww

i have reinstalled windows xp and added pro on top and installed all the
updates to protect the pc, then connecting to the net is ok, for a few weeks
then it slows down to a crawl.

i have a 20gig drive and have loads of space and have even tried to increase
the virtual memory but stil nothing will make IE work like it does on the
first few runs after installing it.

i have emptied all the temp files correctly and still it is slow.

i have Addaware and have done a check but thing is installed but what i
need, no viruses either i have norton internet security, all up to date.

any ideas

Defragment the drive. It's on the Start menu. Accessories/System tools. It
may take a few hours to run.
