I have typed a Template, Now, I would like to Protect some areas of the
letter and give instructions to enter specific information in other areas.

For instance:

I would like to Protect the opening and closing paragraphs.

I would like to place some instructions such as { Shipping Date, (The
proposed shipping date can be calcullated by adding the Lead-Time plus a week
for this plus a week for that) }

What I would like for a result is: I place my cursor somewhere within the
instruction text, I type my date and my date replaces everything within the
brackets.

I've seen forms that allow this. How do I go about formating and protecting
my Template?

Put a continuous section break after the paragraph you want to protect, in
the next section place text box form fields for the data that you want the
user to fill-in, and then place another continuous section break after the
form fields section.

After completeing the document, click TOOLS in the menu and select PROTECT
DOCUMENT. In the Protect document dialog box, select the FORMS options
button, and then click the SECTIONS command button. Uncheck the sections
where you want data entry done and save your file.

Thank you, this is helpful.

Next Question:

I want to have an option of using one statement or another statement, for
instance:

This item will be ready...

or

These items will be ready...

Can I place both options on my form and be able to click the one I want to
be in the letter that I'm typing?

If you're using a protected form, you can use a dropdown list field. But if
you're using MacroButton fields (as suggested in my reply to your original
post), you might want to use an AutoTextList field instead; see
