I have MANY MANY MANY PROBLEMS - XP PRO

Hi Everyone

I had the about:blank virus in which i managed to get rid of (many thanks to
everyone that helped me out there THANK YOU). I followed all the correct
instructions and i even ran a few of the programs that fix your internet
connection about this virus. BUT I STILL HAVE PROBLEMS!!! IF ANYONE CAN HELP
ME WITH ANY OF THE FOLLOWING I WOULD BE GREATFUL!

* when i click on my IE i never get asked to connect anymore (i have dial
up). When i do connect first and then click on my IE it does not matter what
page on the net i try to look at all i ever get is "this page can not be
displayed" although the web address in the address bar is correct. I can
connect to servers and update but i can not see one page what so ever, ive
tried everything from norton pages to symantec pages to ninemsn and google
and so on. I just get that error over and over and over!!!
When i click on search in IE i get the exact same error as well. When i try
to customise my search in IE i get just a blank page.


* I have completely lost my search engine. When you click on start and then
on search i get nothing but a blank page!!! I can not search my own computer
for anything, i wanted to check if my hosts where correct but i have no
search engine anymore - does anyone know how to get this back?????


* i dont have the help and support engine anymore either. When i click on
start and then on help and support nothing at all opens up this is the same
with a few other programs within my control panel such as accounts!!


* the about blank also killed my norton antivirus program. I removed it
completely from my computer and have tried to reinstall it sooo many times
that its doing my head in!!!! Each time i have reinstalled it i can not get
past the wizard set up part. Norton installs correctly but then just stops!
the funny thing is i can still run the live update but i cant run any scans
as the wizard needs to run before i can even open norton up ~~~ any
ideas???????????????


if anyone has any suggestions i would appreciate it. Im soooooo sorry for
all my questions but its been 2 weeks of coming home from work and getting on
my computer till the early hours of the morning - its going to break me
soon!!! It doesnt seem to be too big of a problem since i can connect to the
net but what the use of that when you cant look at anything but an error.
Im sure you all know the error im talking about!!

I have the xp pro disc at home i was wondering if i should install it again
and it would fix a few problems (most likely not my IE problem but maybe the
search ones and things)

Please remember that i can not get any web pages up to run scans or anything
the only thing i can do is save stuff to disc and run it from discs. I also
can not search my computer as the search dont work so im a bit limited in
what i can do!!!!!

Hey Nicoliani - thanks for the advice i will try that tomorrow.
Im not sure how to do a repair install though as when i put the xp pro disc
in it just gives me the options of installing, seeing whats new, browsing the
disc - do i need to hit the install button to allow me to see the repair
install option thanks a bunch again

Hi Aussie Girl,
I have seen some of your other posts you have been having quite a time lately,
It also sounds like your computer is still infected,with about blank(at
least some traces of it ) and perhaps other nastys as well with your A/V on
the fritz.
Time for some expert help, go to this site

I could say that its been longer than 2 weeks and i am going insane.
Ive done everything from ad aware, cwshredder, hijackthis and then ran all
the programs that are suppose to fix up the internet connection about the
virus. It really is driving me insane.
I have soo much paper work next to my computer at home i feel like ive
robbed a forest
thank you sooo much you wouldnt know how much!!!
as i said its making life difficult as i have only limited things i can do
and everything that i download i have to download at work (where i am now) to
disc then take it home and install it and its just a nightmare

greatly appreciated.
