Seems like a fairly borderline wattage, for power supply, with that card and
that processor/memory. Also, have you updated your motherboard drivers?
You don't mention your motherboard.

Power output seems a bit low for that system, probably a good starting point
would be to use a higher output one for a bit, see if it helps.

Also, use Det Destroyer to get rid of the old nVidia drivers, they're known
to cause problems when converting to ATI.

Yes, I've heard that they're unstable using Cat.3.9 driver. That is a DX9
compatible driver and your 9700 card is NOT DX9 compatible. Try an older
driver for stability.

I'd recommend a brand name; antec/enermax/zalman or sth like that. I went
from Macron 400 Watt to Enermax 365, and it's helped my PC a bit ;-)

If you take no-name, take a 400.

And take a PSU with double fan, please ;-) Helps cooling the CPU quite much.

Thomas.

Like someone else pointed out the wattage ratings on cheap supplies is
worth very little. Get a brand name power supply like Antec or
Enermax. I like the Antec more than the Enermax.

You should see the difference between a Sunny/CWT power supply and an
Antec!!! The Antec is built like a rock with big thick and heavy fans
while the Sunny is light weight with cheap fans. You get what you pay
for.

PS is a tad on the light side but there are several factors that may be
the problem as well. Your ram timings may be too aggressive even for LL
sticks. How much ram, how many sticks, and are they in dual array, all can
effect timing. Try the SPD timing or maybe 2-3-3-5 and. Operating at 8x AGP
can be flaky on some mobos, try cutting back to 4x in bios and see what
happens (there might be a more stable bios version available for
reflashing). Also, what's your OS? Win98 starts to get flaky at 512MB &
above. My own experience has been that the ATI drivers are much more stable
in XP than 98/ME.
Certainly AGPv of 1.7 is more than enough (and probably unnecessary if
not OCing). Also was this a used card that maybe somebody decided to reflash
the bios trying to get PRO performance? Also was a fresh install, did you
remember to update the mobo drivers and last but not least what version DX
are you using or are these games being run in GL?

best-0-luck,
mikey

If you're only having crashes with these games and not others, its most
likey driver & software issues and not HW. However, putting Ram at spec (or
using SPD to set ram timings) would be one easy step to eliminate bad bios
settings.

If you have v.1. of MaxPayne2 there are know problems with crashing which
are addressed in later patches. Halo also has some known issues/patch fixes
described by Microsoft with both ATI and VIA chipsets. Try their websites.
Doom3 is, well, alpha, can't help ya.

this appears to be affecting max payne 2 mainly are there any known issues
with this game and ATI cards, Call of Duty is effected as well.. and doom3
alpha thingy, but quake3 seems to be uneffected.

Oops, did't see your post stating your mobo. Your using an Nvidia chipset.
No VIA issues for you.
