I have a virus! :(

Everyone thinks I have a virus and I can't download anything and norton won't
run. Is there any free things that I can download onto a floppy and run on my
computer. My symptoms are...
Can't copy/paste, drag/drop, nortan won't run.
Internet explorer won't onpen with open in new window, links won't work,
drop down menus on sites won't work. and I can't download or email anything.
I'm deperate!

I have XP and norton will not run. That is one of the problems.

People. PLEASE read my fist message completely. Internet explorer WON'T let
me run anything off the internet. no downloading no links.
I need an actual site that I can downlaod (on another computer) something
onto a floppy disk.
Please help.

try a system restore first. NOT the full system re-install

go to the help and support page (Click START and then Help and Support) and
on the right hand side of the window that opens click the link that refers
to a System Restore, then go back to a previous system state. by selecting a
date that you know the pc was working ok.

let us know when and if this works, there is more to do either way.

Several ways you can go best is to download a program called stinger.exe
from MacAfee.

It will fit on a floppy reboot your computer in safe mode by holding down
F8 key on boot stinger should take care of the virus once it takes care of
it. Invest in a quality AV program and keep it up to date

System restore has never worked on my computer and stringer didn't pick up
anything. Are there any others that will look for differnet viruses? I know
there are sites out there but I just don't know any but the one you gave me.

go to this site http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers/download.jsp and
download NAVIGATOR from the Netscape site, and store this file on a floppy
and run it on the infected pc. NOTE YOU MUST BE CONNECTED TO THE NET so that
the files that are need for the software to run Navigator.

it is like Explorer and is free and will allow you to visit the
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ site and do a free virus scan.

It didn't work. It will not allow me to run anything off the internet. It
shuts internet explorer and anything else on the internet off. Are there
anyother free sites?

sounds like the best thing to do is to pull the hard drive put it in a
friends computer in place of their cd rom drive and run AV software from
their computer on your hard drive. that should find anything. Norton disk
is bootable but you need the updates on a floppy for it to work properly
