I have a vertical line on my desktop that I can't get rid of

I have a vertical line on my desktop that I can't get rid of. I thought it
might be my monitor, but I just got a new monitor and it's still there. It
all started when I split a document to read both pages. How do I get rid of
this verticle line on my desktop.
 
It's not something you can do via Microsoft Word.

OK Who out there can tell me how I got a verticle line on my desktop and how
do I get rid of it?
