If you actually did the upgrade, there's nothing to uninstall -- XP installs
on top of 98. There will still be pieces of the 98 installation left over,
but it's nothing to worry about.
Do you mean that you installed XP in addition to W98, so that you now get a
startup menu where you can select between the two operating systems?
You can edit BOOT.INI by doing Start and Run and entering MSCONFIG. Select
Boot.INI. Remove the line under [operating systems] that refers to Windows
98, and if necessary adjust the line that starts 'default=' to point to the
remaining operating system.
