I don't know what I app I should use?

I am a waiter in a fine dinning restaurant. What I would like to do is use my
phone (Blackberry, or maybe the new G-phone) as wine reference. I would like
to be able to put the wine list in my phone with descriptions. Maybe cross
reference with key words example. red, dry, steak, (expensive lol). The goal
would be when asked at a table, "What wine would you suggest to go with my
pancetta wrapped scallops with smoked onion foam?" I might be able to type a
couple keywords and wines that matched would pop-up. Another goal would be as
simple as answering, "What do you think of this wine?" and I could type our
wine's catalog number R7L or the name and the wine description would pop-up.
Do I need to add an app? Can I put it on my laptop and sync it to my phone?
Who and where should I begin to search for a computer literate person to help
set-up a program that I could just fill-in the blanks? If you haven't figured
it out yet I'm not computer savvy (lol). Thank you for your time, Peace &
Happiness to all, Bob.

Unfortunately you're asking your question in the wrong newsgroup.

This newsgroup is dedicated to the desktop database product called Microsoft
Access, which is part of Microsoft office.

So it's a bit of a long shot to ask about a blackberry which is a non
Microsoft products and has nothing to do with Microsoft access.

However since this is a newsgroup for Microsoft access, if I was going to
build such an application for a smart phone, I would suggest that you
consider building the data and tables in Microsoft access, and then use a
product like pendragon.

http://www.pendragonsoftware.com/

The above would allow you to build a form on your smartphone (or pda) and
then allow you search for the type of criteria as you mentioned above.
(it's not clear if you have any experience using a database products like
Microsoft access).

I would suggest he also consider getting a smart phone with windows mobile,
because there's so many third party applications. A quick google seach of:

Wine list windows mobile

So you might not have to build any application at all. You might find
something out there suitable for your use already. (there was quite a long
list of hits in the above search when I used google).

Certainly an admirable endeavor. If you can find an existing application,
I'd try that first. Perhaps something like:

http://www.pocketgear.com/en_US/htm...Page=searchResults&id=prod6871380&sf=48190044

would suit your needs. If you can't find anything, you'll need to write it
yourself. You can use Access tables and any one of several programs designed
for Pocket PC, Smartphone, Palm, and possibly Blackberry to make the
application available to your phone. I'd suggest 1 thing though. Restaurant
clientele feel more comfortable with a waiter who already knows which wines
go with what. Except for very young and inexperienced customers who may
think the technology kewl, you may want to hide your use of a computer
program.
