i can get e-mails ok but when i send a e-mail i get this
One or more e-mail messages cannot be sent.
Details
View the log
After you verify your computer is connected to the Internet, McAfee
recommends that you resend those messages from your e-mail program.

i put this up on a other report once and they siad that i should get a
something different but not McAfee so i am wondering if Bit Defender will
work.
Thanks...

McAfee is the erroring program, turn off e-mail scanning (not the whole AV
program but then I'd really really really suggest getting something else
like NOD32 and use it instead of McAfee).

Regardless of what av program you get, you need to disable its email
scanning functions.

What do you mean by "turning off"?
You need to uninstall McAfee completely, then reboot.
If you still have a problem after that, describe it in detail.

I have Kaspersky AV. I turned off Email scanning on both Kaspersky and
Defender and I still cannot send any mail.

Is there any kind of error message when you try to send?
If so, copy it (right-click on it), then paste it into a reply.

Gary:

Thank you very much for replying! Below you find the error message. By the
way, I called my ISP abut the SMTP Port and they told me to just type
SMTP.charter.net. They did not give me any Port number. I did type what I was
told, it did not work. The error message is the same for all the emails. What
changes from one error message to the other is the email address. Here it is:

The message could not be sent. The authentication setting might not be
correct for your outgoing e-mail [SMTP] server. For help solving this
problem, go to Help, search for "Troubleshoot Windows Mail", and read the
"I'm having problems sending e-mail" section. If you need help determining
the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.

The rejected e-mail address was '(e-mail address removed)'. Subject
'Vonage', Account: 'UWEC', Server: 'smtp.charter.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server
Response: '550 relaying mail to directdishsatellitetv.net is not allowed',
Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79
