I cant get winows xp to udate

hi i have tryed to get updates for the last week i have tryed to up date by
the start bar and thoroh the help and i have all so went to microsoft .com
all my computer will do is say it is conneting and then frezz up do any one
know something to try / thanks ed

:I have the same problem as noted: I had to re-install xp
thru my hp pavilion stored data and now update will not work? thanks in
advance for your help.
