What happens when you try to access the site? If you end up
somewhere else, then you have a browser hijacker installed.

Okay I am having the same problem and I blaim the children... but I wonder if
it was an update. These instructions are extremely difficult- I tries the
first one with no success... I am up to disabling my add ons on the other and
I have been working on this for a couple hours. It would be great to access
paypal again, but I can not even get to my on line banking... this is very
frustrating. Eileen33 have you gotten anywhere??? Gateway says it ismicrosoft
and microsoft says it is gateway. No one seems to want to help

Hello Bekka,

Can you at least access some plain, ordinary websites?
Apparently you CAN access these groups with your browser.

Here are generic tips I would offer for your banking site & similar sites that you truly trust.
Fill in the following example-site with the real name of the website you trust.

Refine settings in Internet Explorer browser. Add *your site* to the trusted sites list in the Internet Options.

To access the Exceptions settings.

1. Open Internet Explorer browser

2. Click Tools / Internet Options

3. Click the Security Tab

4. Click on the Trusted Sites Icon

5. Click on the Sites button

6. Unselect the check box "Require server verification (https:)for all sites in this zone"

7. Add your site

8. Apply changes.

Do this to tweak the pop-up blocker in I.E.-SP2 browser.
From Internet Explorer main menu, select Tools, then Popup blocker, then popup blocker settings.
For address of Web site to allow, type in
YOURSITE.com

Press Add, then press Close.

Bekka,

(I'm cross-posting to IE6 newsgroup.)

How far do you get into one of your "websites"? Details are important. What are the websites' addresses?

I highly recommend the IE6 newsgroup for Internet Explorer issues. It is at microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.browser

OK, this MAY be your problem... Check within your "hosts" file and see what
is in there...

C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

Open that file up with NOTEPAD. When you click on it, Windows won't know
how to open it. Choose NOTEPAD...

There will be a large amount to text at the top, describing what the file
is, all lines starting with "#". You will want to look below those lines.
There should pretty much be only ONE entry after the first set of lines,
though on a RARE occasion, certain "protective" software will add entries to
this file. The single line (or fist line below the descriptive text) should
read, "127.0.0.1 localhost".

If there are other entries below that, look through them for the sites that
you are having trouble getting to. If you find them listed, delete them;
the whole line...

If the above is your problem, then the most likely cause is that you are
infected with something; Adware, Spyware, Trojan, or similar...

Hopefully this will help you out...
