I can't enter text in Word 2007 files - old or new

Help. When I open existing Word files and open new files I can't do anything.
This has suddenly happened and I am at my wits end! I am working with Windows
Vista Home Premium in Word 2007.

Only two possible clues:
1. The files have all flipped into [compatibility mode] - no idea why
2. I haven't activated the programme because the computer keeps telling me
that my 25-character product key (which I found on the base of the computer)
is incorrect. But I haven't had any messages that say the acitvation period
has expired or anything like that.

The product key on the bottom of the computer is for Windows, not Office.
Your Office is almost certainly a trial version that has expired (or hasn't
been activated).

Did this copy of Word come already installed on a new computer? If so, it's
likely that what you have is a time-limited trial version, unless the
computer vendor explicitly said that you bought a bundled retail version.
Also, unless the sticker on the bottom of the computer specifically says the
product key is for Word (or Office), then that key is probably only for
Windows (not the same thing!).

Contact the company that sold you the computer, and ask them whether they
installed a trial version. If so, you need to buy the full product, or
replace it with some other word processor.

Almost certainly the trial version of Word 2007 pre-installed on your PC has
now expired.
If indeed you have a retail version of Office 2007, the product key is on
the orange sticker on the Office Disc packaging.
Any other secnario and you should contact the supplier of the PC/Office 2007
for support.
