Andy

It seems the only way I can close a webpage is to open
the Task Manager. I can't click the "x" at the top right
of the screen to close the web page, nor can I close the
page from the file menu. This only seems to apply to
Internet Explorer 6.0. I can close pages fine in
Windows. I have run SpyBot and McAfee VirusScan, and
haven't found anything. If its a setting thats been
modified (somehow) I don't know what it is or how to fix
it. Everything else in my system works fine. I feel
quite stupid, but can anyone help? Thanks!

I to had a similiar problem. If you are using XP Home Addition this will probably work for you also
1. Start Internet Explorer 6
2.Click on "Tools"; Internet Options
3. Click on the "Advanced" tab
4. Cursor down to the line saying "Java (Sun)
5. Uncheck the box saying "Use Java 2 v....
6. Restart Windows and try Internet Explorer, you should be able to close the program using the "X" box in the upper right corner of the window or any other way you normally close the Browser
Good Luck!

First eliminate any scumware.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
CWShredder is also available here:

**Post your HijackThis log to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the Spyware forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**
Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

HiJackThis worked like a charm. Thanks for the help and
anyone else experiencing this problem should try this
routine!
