I cannot use my restore disk on my eMacines. I get errors. PLEASE HELP!!

My computer is really acting up, (I cant open my emails for starters).
Since I dont have anything important on this hard drive I figured I
would just use the restore CD's that came with my eMachines. But I
dont get very far before I receive the first of 3 error messages. I
believe all messages have to do with a Symantec program (norton
antivirus?), but when I go to Symantec website to correct the problem
I am unable to open anything they suggest would help.
The first error message I get is "cannot open R:\T2482.GHO"
The second error message is "Cannot open GHOSTERR.TXT"
and the final one is "Application Error 11000 Invalid dump file"
Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

If you have the origional XP cd run your install via that,
I myself do not like restore cd's from manufactures
because they add allot of unnecessary programs, like IBM
they include the OS on the restore and not a seperate OS
cd, if I get called out to a service call and this is
whaat I incounter I use my XP cd not the restore.

I hope this helps.

If you've added any new hardware, extra memory, etc., since you purchased
the computer, remove it. Unplug things like printers, scanners, USB storage
devices, etc. that aren't essential to the use of the computer.

Make sure you're booting from the CD and not trying to run the repair from
within Windows.

If none of that works, call emachines.

On the face of it sounds like the restore CD is corrupt. back to emachines
for help I think.

Are you using the Restore CDs as directed? Usually you boot the system with
the Restore/Recovery CD. Software that's on your hard should not make a
difference, because the CD formats the hard drive and reinstalls the
operating system and software. The problems that I've had with
Restore/Recovery CDs were due to added hardware to the original
configuration. I've had to remove that hardware before booting with the
Restore/Recovery CD, or I'd get error messages. The CD looked for the exact
configuration as shipped, or if hardware was added, it wouldn't work. If
you have removed any hardware that you might have added since receiving the
system, set your System Setup (BIOS) to make the CD drive the first drive in
the booting sequence, and booted with CD #1 (if their are more than one in
the recovery set of CDs), and you still get error messages, maybe the
Recovery/Restore CD is defective.
