I cannot open my word documents - message says file unavailable

Suddenly all my word document will not open. Message I get is “file not
available†I can open said document in notepad only. Also when closing word
I am prompted to overwrite a template if I select no them it tells me that I
am making a global change. All this is a new behavior. I tried uninstalling
word 2003 and installing again but that does not help.

If you are using Norton AntiVirus, disable its Office Plug-in.

No I no longer use norton but recently started to use Computer associates
Etrust

If Norton AV was installed at one time then the DLL for the Office
Plug-in could still be registered.

Search for : officeav.dll

If you find it then go to Start/Run and run the following command:

regsvr32 /u "<path>\officeav.dll"

Here is a KB article that provides a few additional details. It does
not include information on Norton CE but it will contain additional
details on the unregister command if you need them:

Problem solved!!! but I now need to remove norton completely from my
computer. I used "add or remove programs" and thought that would have been
final
