Hi,
I cannot seem to open a second window using Internet Explorer. When I
initially open Internet Explorer it takes ages to open the first page.
I recently had a friend install some anti-virus prog (AVG program) and
since that time, i cannot open the above problem has occurred.
Any help or thoughts would be great.
Thanks,
georgie71

Go to Tools | Internet Options | Advanced.
Uncheck "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts".

Also, if you have Yahoo Companion, Google toolbar, MSN toolbar, a firewall,
EarthLink (or another pop-up blocker) My IE2 (a shell for IE) etc.
Yahoo Companion is a very common cause.

You'll have to turn off the feature that's blocking new windows or, perhaps,
uninstall the program (especially uninstall Yahoo Companion).

With some programs of this type, using Ctrl+click or Shift+click will allow
a new window.

If you're *sure* that another program isn't causing this, these links may
help.

Windows version? IE version? Do you have another anti-virus application
installed? Was one installed before you installed AVG?

Hello,

Try running IE6 with add-ons disabled

Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Advanced (tab) > UNCHECK "Enable
third-party browser extensions" > OK

If it works now, one of your add-ons is causing the problem. Start Internet
Explorer as normal, Tools, Manage Add-ons, Enable or Disable Add-ons.

Disable all the add-ons. Enable third-party browser extensions in Internet
Options.

Restart your browser and enable the add-ons one by one till the problem
appears and you get the culprit.

Hi,
Thank-you so much to all of the people who helped me. You are clever
and so nice to help me out. Yippee, I checked the add ons in Internet
Options Tools etc and sure enough, one which should have been enabled
had been disabled. Phew, the Internet is so much faster too! Thanks to
all- I uninstalled another component from a previous security program
and also lowered the level of my security. Everything is great again.
MASSIVE THANK-YOU!!!!!
