Have you checked the settings in Norton Internet Security to see if it's
blocking any of the ports needed for POP3/SMTP mail (typically 110 for POP3
& 25 for SMTP)
Task 'Reenie - Receiving' reported error (0x8004210A) : 'The operation timed
out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server. If you continue
to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet
service provider (ISP).'
It did help me. I am not getting error any more. But turning off the Norton
Firewall ,is that a good thing to do? What will be the negative impact? Can
you please explain
Well, it depends on how your machine is connected to the Internet. I'd check
to see if there's a way for you to configure the firewall to allow traffic
on the ports needed (110 for incoming mail & 25 for outgoing mail). I don't
use the Norton product so I can't help much in that regard.
