i am locked out of word, says it has expired and i need to upgrad

when i use word it tells me that my word has expired, i have the original one
with the machine, 2002 Works suite. it redirects me to upgrade. why ? it has
locked me out of all my documents
 
Start Word, click on Help | Activate Product, and follow the
instructions on the screen.
 
Or the version was a trial version and it has now expired.
