I am having issues with my CD/DVD player (music/audio skipping) video is fine

I have a presario V2000

it is all factory istalled hardware, all of the sudden my CDs will not
play properly (thy skip) and DVD audio does the same, the video end
seems fine, and Audio ont the hard drive works fine also, I tried
playing a video from my PSP through the USB and it skipped the same
way!

I have been going through HP support and we have tried allot with not
fix yet? I am so frustrated they are saying to send it back (for who
knows how long) but I believe it is a setting, program issue, or
glitch...PLEASE HELP!

I however believe it is a hardware problem.

Before I'd pack it off to HP on my dime,
1. I'd sweat $20.00 and buy a CD/ DVD cleaning kit. Make sure it has a Lens
Cleaner CD in the kit, or buy one separately. Clean the lens and CD's /
DVD's.
2. Try the disks in a friend's machine, if they play OK, your machine is at
fault. If they don't, they are too warped to play. CD's and DVD's bend
easy, it doesn't take much. I've had DVD cases where you needed a crowbar to
pry the disk out.
3. The PSP problem could be from other programs running in the background
sucking up resources, turn off all unneeded programs.
4. If none of this works, and the machine is out of warranty, I'd find a
local computer shop and have them fix it; rather than shipping it to HP. If
it is in warranty, by all means use HP.
