I am confused about wga.

According to web sites, newsgroups postings. Wga will be mandatory or
you system will not work.

Other web sites and newsgroup postings said this is not the case.

It concerns me that malfunctioning WGA could mess up bank computers.

Microsoft does not communicate with other parts of the company another
words their right hand does not know what their left hand is doing
(legal disclaimer-Of course I could be wrong.)

They have also said the would issue patches to disable Activation and
others things after they stop support windows xp. (legal
disclaimer-Of course I could be wrong.)

According to other non-MS sources and articles (sorry deleted all after
reading it, but easy to find from Internet), MS executives now: (1) refuse
to comment any details about WGA, and (2) neither denied nor admitted (once
admitted it was the ultimate goal) that it will be a kill.

I guess the last non-MS article should also mention that but no sure.

This is a valid concern. WGA has been a bane to legitimate licence
holders, not to pirates.

I've not heard this. But how many YEARS will it be before they stop
supportting XP? (Ive already seen the official timeline, thanks. The
question is rhetorical) Not till the OS after Vista, at least.

Do not install the WGA notification tool. It is spyware. MS will
hopefully lose the 2 spyware cases against it.

The confusion:

1. THERE ARE TWO, not one components:

"WGA" - needed to easily get access to some software updates and extras at
Microsoft. Not needed for critical updates.

"WGA Notifications" - completely not needed - a strategy by Microsoft to spy
on users - it's a phone home and report on you program. If your system has a
blacklist product key the thing will take preliminary steps against your
computer, starting with nagging you. Essentially it is a big brother
strategy - supposedly for our own good (aren't they all?) - but more to
control, report, identify and alter the behaviour of our computers.

Microsoft presents both to users as 'critical updates'. The thing about the
"phone home and sntich on you" WGA Notifications is that you can refuse to
install it with no ill effect [you can avoid installing it by carefully
going through and reading the critical updates and de-selecting it].
Microsoft has its update website scream holly-baloo if you don't install
it - but that is just smoke and mirrors - and you can operate your computer
just fine without it and can get all the patches updates and extras you
need.

2. Microsoft is not clear about them, prersents WGA N as "critical". But
that is a lie. WGA N is not critical. It is a phone home. It also seriously
alters the behaviour of your computer and takes preliminary steps against
it. It is WGA N that is getting Microsoft into hot water with lawsuits.

In my opinion: Install WGA - it's a legit strategy. Do not install WGA N -
it's an illegitimate strategy.
