HyperTerminal is out of control

We are trying to use Hyper Terminal to connect from our
Las Vegas dentist office to our El Paso office. This
worked for a few minutes on Monday, but after we hung up
and tried logging on a second time, the modem would make
all that promising static, all the way up to the final
connection silence, and then the program would return "No
Answer" and the status bar would say Not Connected. We
have tweaked every setting on HyperTerminal, called our El
Paso office and had them tweak everything, dialed a murder
of times, and it either says No Answer or Busy, if we call
too soon after hanging up.

Is there something at a deeper level that needs to be
checked out? I am a people doctor, and not at all
familiar with computer fixing, so please walk me through
it.

Thank you.

The problem does not necessarily lie with H.T. But be aware that there is
a free upgrade available at the maker's WEBsite: Hyperterminal Private
Edition.

Have you checked that all port settings for you modem and the modem you
are dialing to are the same?
