I am unable to contact a bulletin board to down load files. Earlier in the
year I had been able to do without a hitch.

To my knowledge, none of the settings have been changed.

The telephone numbers are still correct. When the dial button is clicked
there is no dail tone and thus no connection.

I have tried using the hyperterminal on another computer with windows XP,
and it connected without any problem.

Has anyone any helpful suggestions please.

Does your modem work for anything else, eg dial-up networking? If so there's
probably a problem in the Hyperterminal settings for the modem port. If not
there's a problem with the modem's installation, drivers, or the modem itself.

And then of course there's the obvious: Is the modem plugged into the phone
line? and if you connect a phone onto that line do you get a dialtone?

Delete the *.ht file that contains the BBS information. Then open a
blank Hyperterminal session and create a new *.ht file containing all
the correct BBS information. Also make sure that Hyperterminal is
working correctly. Hyperterminal will use the XP settings you have in
place for your modem. So make sure the modem is setup correctly and
can dial out.
