Hyperlinking to *specific slides* accross multiple presentations

Hi,

I'm trying to set up hyperlinks that reach specific slides accross other
powerpoint presentations. Right now I have been using this method:

Action Settings > Hyperlink to: > Other PowerPoint Presentation...

It then gives me the option to select a slide. I can either select by slide
number, or by slide name if I have already named the slide.

Now let's say I select "Slide 13" to link to. The problem with these
hyperlinks is that if I were to add or delete a slide in the middle of the
the "other powerpoint presentation" then the hyperlink no longer goes to the
proper slide. It continues to go to the "13th slide from the start" instead
of "what used to be the 13th slide". Even when I *name* each slide and
hyperlink to the slide name it still links to the "13th slide form the start."

This is in contrast to hyperlinking within a single powerpoint file. Those
hyperlnks will update if you add or delete slide so that you don't have to go
back and change every hyperlink again.

Is it possible to maintain this updating feature with hyperlinks accross
"other presentations"?

thanks,

art.

I don't think so. But you might be able to save yourself some grief by keeping
all the slides that are targets of links at the beginning of the presentation,
then linking from them to the next natural slide in sequence within that
presentation.

Make sense?

Naw, I didn't think it would.

OK. Since we don't have any cocktail napkins to scribble on (BARKEEP! More
V-PEANUTS!!!) ...

Suppose you now have a five slide presentation. You link to slide 3. But
instead, you move slide 3 to the first position in the deck and link to what's
now slide 1. Like so

3 Links to slide 4
1
2
4
5

But now you need to add some new content

3 Links to slide 4
1
2
2a
2b
4
5

and another slide that's a link target, so you put that at the beginning of the
pressie, right AFTER the last slide that's a link target, 3.

3 Links to slide 4
6 New slide, links to 2, lets' say
1
2
2a
2b
4
5

The presentation keeps all the internal links straight and as long as you never
insert any new slides AHEAD of your 'link target' slides, they won't break the
links either.

Barkeep! A drink for my friend. He needs it.

Okay, I understand now.

And this could be a viable solution if it were just my own personal
presentation. But I will have a lot of people editing this presentation...
and this would be a bit too complicated... it's not quite "idiot proof" if
you know what i mean.

thanks anyway though.

No fair. You didn't tell me there were idiots involved. ;-)

Nature breeds 'em faster than we can reinforce the dykes.
