Hyperlinking files into Word. Link to the JPEG file works fine, but a link to
a PDF in the same directory as the JPEG receives the error message:

Cannot open the specified file.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi Coach,

What version of Word are you using and where are the files located (local hard drive, network server/mapped drive)?

What app is associated with the .PDF file type (Word, for example cannot open a PDF file).

If you use Alt+F9 to toggle display of the hyperlink field code, what does the Hyperlink field show for both the link that works and
the one that doesn't?

Bob,

Word 2003, and the files are stored locally but were downloaded from a
database. Acrobat is associated with the .pdf.

Found the problem last night. For whatever reason, the downloaded files had
"[1]" inserted in the file name. This was converted to "%5b1%5d" in the
hyperlink. I removed "[1]" from the file name and redid the hyperlink; now it
opens just the way it should.

I appreciate you taking your time on this.

Regards,
Jim
