Hyperlink warning, yet then it opens anyway.

I use Windows XP and both Internet Explorer and Firefox.

Since yesterday I get a small drop down window that says it cannot find the
hyperlink I just clicked on, but almost immediately thereafter opens that
hyperlink fine.

I have tried it on a number of hyperlinks now. At least 12 or more.

How do I fix this "non" error?

If it's Firefox that opens the link after complaining it can't, it's a
bug in the installer that garbles some of the file association settings.
Have you perhaps updated recently? To fix:

Make sure Firefox is not running, open Control Panel | Folder Options
and click on the File Types tab. Find the entry "URL:HyperText Transfer
Protocol", click on it to highlight and then click the Advanced button.

In the next window, under "Actions", click on Open to highlight, then
click the Edit button. Un-check "Use DDE" and OK your way back out.

You might also want to do the same for URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol
with Privacy and the file associations HTM and HTML. When Firefox is
next started, it will reinstate DDE and write the correct settings.

I tried your suggestion but it did not work. I still get the drop down
window first, that it cannot find the URL and immediately thereafter it
opens to the URL.

Very annoying.

Hmm, sorry it didn't work for you. It's a well-known fix and I have to
apply it after every FF update Are you sure you selected
URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol (near the top of the File Types window)
and not Firefox URL?

I went there again and did exactly what you said. I noticed that the DDE
item was still checked. I unchecked it now and will post to-morrow, when I
get more messages with Hyperlinks, how it goes.

wrong or forgot to delete the checkmark yesterday.

Hi again

No, you needn't have done anything wrong -- the DDE setting *does*
return the next time Firefox is launched. It's supposed to do that. What
unchecking it does is make FF rewrite correctly commands that sometimes
get garbled by the installer routine.

What I have there is:
