Hyperlink to Word bookmark?

I moved a Visio process flow drawing, as an object, into PP. I added
individual, transparent, objects around the processes I want to link back to
a Word doc. I browse to the Word doc file and the link to the Word doc
works. I want to link to specific bookmarks in the Word doc. On the "Edit
Hyperlink" screen, I expected to be able to click on the "Bookmark" button
and select the appropriate one, instead I get the following error message:

"Microsoft PowerPoint could not open this file or could not parse a file of
the type."

This worked using Visio to a Word "bookmarks".

Also, do I have to have a return path on the Word doc bookmark to the PP
slide?

Thank for any help.

I get the same thing if I choose HTML files that contain no named destinations
or Word files that, as far as I know, have no bookmarks and with a word doc
that DOES contain a bookmark.

It works with HTML files that contain named destinations and with PPT file.

HELP suggests only that it works with PPT file; my guess is that it's not
intended to work with Word files. The implementation is buggy, in that if it
can't deal with Word.DOC files, it shouldn't let you click the Bookmark button
in the first place, or should at least give you a reasonable error message.

Generally it's best to simply close any file that's linked to. The PPT show
will be open and still running underneath it.

And in case you didn't see Bill's other reply:

Choose the Word file in the hyperlink dialog box and manually add #BookMarkName
to the end of the file (Bill, it seems to work here with or without the add'l
space between xxx.doc and #BookMark)
